ε-Polylysine, Rising Star in the field of preservatives

Can it really be called non-preservative additives?

With the increasing concern about the safety of cosmetics, the use of preservatives has become a controversial topic in the cosmetics industry. However, among many preservatives, ε-polylysine has become a clean stream in the field of cosmetics due to its unique properties. Then, ε-polylysine can be called preservative-free additives.

In order to further strengthen the management of cosmetic raw materials, the State Food and Drug Administration organized and compiled the Catalogue of Used cosmetic Raw Materials (2021 Edition). A total of 8965 kinds of used cosmetic raw materials are included in the catalogue,and the ingredients that are not included will not be used for cosmetic production.

In addition, the Technical Specification for Cosmetic Safety stipulates 1388 prohibited components,47 restricted components,51 permitted preservatives, 27 permitted sunscreens,157 permitted colorants and 75 permitted hair dyes.ε-Polylysine is not within the scope of the above prohibited, restricted and permitted preservatives, so it can be called a used raw material with antiseptic effect that is not in the list of cosmetics preservatives.
